The annual meeting place for the Russian CFO community!

The Adam Smith Russian CFO Summit is the largest and longest-running annual meeting for the CFO community in Russia, bringing together senior finance executives from across the country and beyond and providing a unique opportunity to benchmark, share experience and best practice and discuss the latest developments in the profession.

  • A 3-day main programme filled with interactive formats, panel discussions, debates, live interviews and plenary and parallel sessions, packed with original viewpoints and innovative case studies;
  • A 60-strong speaker faculty features the most respected and admired CFOs from Russia and abroad. Each year the speaker panel is carefully and equally balanced between the most well-established members of the CFO community and new figures who are quickly establishing their names amongst their peers. In 2014, as usual, over 50% of the speakers or companies were brand new to the Summit;
  • Over 400 attendees annually drawn from the widest range of industries and from across Russia and beyond. They recognise that the Russian CFO Summit provides a unique and invaluable opportunity to meet with their peers and discuss common challenges.

CFO Summit

With preparations already underway for the 12th annual Summit in Moscow in late October 2015, we look forward to many more positive and original case studies when the Russian CFO community next gathers together.

The eagerly-anticipated 11th annual Russian CFO Summit took place in its traditional timeslot at the end of October in Moscow, bringing together several hundred representatives of the CFO community from across Russia, literally from Kaliningrad to Sakhalin, and abroad. Delegates used the opportunity to share best practice with their peers on how to overcome the challenges posed by the unpredictable economic climate.
Just a few of the Summit highlights included:

  • The opening session discussed why the CFO’s unique insight into the business is more important than ever and Galina Ryltsova of PwC led an expert panel featuring Alexey Kornya of MTS; popular first time speaker Elena Verman of Gazprom-Media; Microsoft’s Regional CFO, Christian Schaetz, who flew in especially for the Summit; Anton Vishanenko, newly-appointed CFO of Uralkali; 2014 CFO of the Year Mikhail Katsnelson of Burger King and Konstantin Rogov of Svyaznoy Bank
  • Mikhail Lukashevich of CFO-Russia moderated a lively debate on the impact of the current market conditions on the CFO function, featuring Grigory Fedorishin of NLMK, Vyacheslav Sotnik of TransTeleCom, Sergey Sulimov of MMK, Sergey Karataev of Freight One and Victor Belyakov, the outgoing CFO of Uralkali;
  • Bjarte Bogsnes, Vice President, CFO Performance Management & Risk, Statoil, and Co-Founder of the Beyond Budgeting Movement, hosted a popular Masterclass on the latest developments in Beyond Budgeting, the management model that has gained much traction in Russia in recent years;
  • 2 ever-popular speakers – Nikolay Solomon of Rosatom and Olga Petrova of NefteTransService shared their views with Natalia Krasnoperova of BearingPoint on how to inspire the finance team to deliver the required goals. Christian Kaufmann of Unilever shared their global best practice, while Vladislav Khokhlov of Promsvyazbank and Kai-Uwe Mehlhorn of Rostelecom provided insight into managing the finance function in 2 of Russia’s largest corporate entities;
  • The annual Guest Economic Lecture was delivered by Chris Weafer, the renowned emerging markets strategist, who gave an upbeat message on how the Russian economy was robust enough to deal with its challenges;
  • Leading CFOs from Polyus Gold, Sodrugestvo Group and Raspadskaya shared their views on the macroeconomic outlook with Oxana Panchenko of Raiffeisenbank, while Sergey  Rezontov of Lysva Metallurgical Company and Nikolay Garanin of A5 Pharmacy Chain provided case studies of innovative methods of raising finance; 
  • Herkko Soininen, CFO of Rovio, creators of the Angry Birds phenomenon, gave a fascinating insight into the role of the CFO during the evolution from start-up to global media company;
  • It could be said the best was saved for last when a full hall gathered for the final 2 sessions on the last day! Sergey Sulimov, CFO of MMK, inspirationally led the debate on the role of technology in improving business processes, ably accompanied by Roman Borisov (Inventive Retail Group), Galina Teveleva (Geropharm) and Alexey Guskov (FinExperiza);
  • In the final session, one of the Summit’s most popular speakers, Lyudmila Smirnova of Tele2, shared her experience of differing approaches to Forecasting and Budgeting with key contributions from colleagues from Kimberly Clark, Biocad, Anaplan and E.ON Russia.
